NEW DELHI: Sector tribunal Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (Tdsat) has ordered Sun TV and ETV to provide signals to Bhubhaneswar-based multi-system operator (MSO) Ortel.

The broadcast tribunal has also directed for a joint survey to be conducted on 4 August in the naval dockyard to get an accurate subscriber base.

Ortel had sued Sun TV and Ushodaya Enterprises -- which operates ETV channels -- for not providing it the broadcaster’s decoder so that it can provide channels in the naval dockyard at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

According to Ortel, both Sun TV and Ushodaya Enterprises have been urging Ortel to take signals from another MSO while the company has an exclusive licence to operate in the naval dockyard and Ortel has been requesting for decoders from both the broadcasters for some time now.

Meanwhile, the broadcasters argued that they have no issues in providing signals through any other MSO, as Ortel has not been able to prove its stand as an MSO in the Vizag region. Also, being an MSO in the Orrisa region does not qualify Ortel as an MSO in any other region. Thus the company should provide documents which would fortify its position as an MSO.

Both cases will be heard again on 3 September.
