NGC celebrates Independence Day with wildlife content

MUMBAI: National Geographic Channel (NGC) celebrates freedom with its 'Independence Day Special' on Friday, 15 August from noon.

This eleven-hour marathon will feature special films that will showcase some of the most exquisite wildlife species around the world. The films would present wild animals as they fight to survive in their natural habitats, against all odds, both manmade and natural.

NGC India senior VP - content and communication Rajesh Sheshadri said, "Our Independence Day special celebrates the wild and is a reflection of our commitment towards conservation. Through this special line-up we urge our viewers to think about the wild whose existence now depends on us."

'Independence Day Special' includes films like Living with Lions. This showcases the life of the only wildlife cameraman to be given full access to live and work in the Kruger National Park. A Life with Bears gives an insight on a filmmaker who returns to Alaska's Aleutan Islands with his young son where they continue to capture intimate portraits of the grizzlies that live there.

Hyena Queen gives access into the lives of a hyena clan and its queen on the Mala Mala game reserve in South Africa. A Life among Whales captures the lives of the biggest mammals in the world and humans co-existence with some of the most intriguing creatures on earth.

The Wolfman gives an insight on the extraordinary story of a man who undertakes a dangerous and unorthodox experiment to learn the secrets of one of man's most feared predators, the wolf.

Other films that are part of this special include Gabon: Triumph of the wild, which focuses on one African leader and a group of scientists who created the largest parks system in the world, with an eco-tourism industry to sustain them.

Wildlife Photographers gives an insight on two photographers' passionate hunt for the best wildlife photo through the Kenyan reservations. Living with Big Cats shares a story of an intimate relationship between two filmmaker and a leopard they find when she is eight days old.
