MUMBAI:
The DLF Indian Premier Leagye (IPL) has announced that the
total prize money for the inaugural edition of the league
is Rs 120 million.
The
winning team will earn Rs 48 million. The runners-up will
be richer by Rs 24 million, while the two losing semi-finalists
will each earn Rs 12 million for their efforts.
The
total prize money will then further be divided amongst the
other teams. The team finishing fifth will collect Rs 8 million,
while the sixth finisher will earn Rs 7 million. The team
finishing seventh on the league table will get Rs 5 million
while the team that finishes last will earn Rs 4 million.
IPL
chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi says, The Rs 48
million winner's purse makes the DLF IPL truly one of the
richest events for a domestic Twenty20 league anywhere in
the world. With just a few days left until the first ball
is bowled in Bangalore, the excitement is almost palpable
and India, as indeed cricket lovers across the world, cannot
wait to see who will emerge the victor on 1 June.
The
IPL kicks off on 18 April with the match between Shah Rukh
Khans Kolkata Knight Riders and Dr. Vijay Mallyas
Bangalore Royal Challengers at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in
Bangalore.
