MUMBAI:
Sony Entertainment Television has roped in actor Salman Khan
to host the local version of SPTI's game show Power of
10.
The show will launch in June and is being produced by Synergy
Adlabs.
Sony will use the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the lead
in for the show.
According
to Sony business head Albert Almeida, the show is more inclusive
and audience participatory compared to other gameshows.
Prior
to the show going on air, the channel will conduct a series
of polls on issues concerning the nation. It will then put
these into a bank.
On
being asked a question, the participant will have to figure
out how the nation felt about a certain issue. For instance
a participant could be asked about the percentage of Indians
who felt that partition was a good thing for the country.
This makes the show democratic in nature, says Almeida.
Participants
can reach Rs 10 million by answering five questions on the
show. Five questions to a crore will be the positioning of
the show. The channel will use IPL as a platform to create
awareness about this show.
Almeida
adds that participants will need to have an educated stance
and a decisive point of view to succeed. "If an issue
affects him/her, then it is likely that the participant will
answer as per the feelings. If the question pertains to an
issue that is far from the individual's issue, then the participant
will have to think about it."
A
participant can choose to exit the show at any point of time.
If the participant however carries on and answers incorectly,
then the amount won is lost. In the beginning two participants
face off for the right to play the game.
In
the US the show airs on CBS and is hosted by Drew Carey. Each
game features contestants predicting how a cross-section of
Americans respond to questions covering a wide variety of
topics in polls conducted by the broadcaster. The top prize
is $10 million.
The
show is known for its humourous and sometimes controversial
questions. Carey does not know the answers and will sometimes
help contestants think through questions and offer his own
opinions. He also makes jokes and pokes fun at the contestants'
occupations and hobbies as well as himself during the questions.
The show made 19-year-old Jamie Sadler a millionaire. He also
became the youngest person to ever win $1 million on a quiz
or game show.
Last
year SPTI had reached agreements for local versions of the show with Nine Network
in Australia, Chilevision in Chile, TF1 in France and Mega in Greece. |
