MUMBAI: Denmark's engineering consultancy company Ramboll Group has acquired a majority stake in IMISoft Engineering.

IMIsoft, which was established in 1988, provides specialised engineering services including software products for tower design, project management of tower construction, design and detail engineering consultancy and quality audit services covering the entire life cycle of tower construction.

With the acquisition of a majority stake, Ramboll will expand the services portfolio offered to telecom infrastructure companies to include cellular site project services, project management and operations and maintenance of cellular sites.

IMISoft founder A R Vishwanath said, "Following closely on the heels of the boom in telecom infrastructure in India when all the major mobile operators have hived off their tower infrastructure into separate companies this acquisition by Ramboll group is very timely and can add great momentum to the company's growth."

Ramboll Group provides engineering, consultancy, product development and operation services within the areas of buildings, energy and climate, environment and nature, industry and oil/gas, infrastructure and transport, IT and telecom and management. It employs over 7000 specialists operating in a broad international context from 127 offices in the Nordic region and the UK and from 31 permanent offices in the rest of the world.

IMIsoft, which has 20 offices spread across India with 650 plus employees, claims that its customer base include many of the country's major telecom and power transmission companies.

"For Ramboll the acquisition is strategically very important to pursue the opportunities in one of the world's fastest growing markets. To become successful in this exciting market, one must have great expertise, significant size and extensive geographical coverage. Together we form a very strong partnership that will strengthen our position as the leading telecom service provider in the Indian market", said Ramboll Telecom MD Poul Albeck.
