MUMBAI:
The 29th annual Banff World Television Festival, which begins
on 8 June this year in Canada, has announced the nominees
for its awards, Rockies.
Banff
World Television Festival executive director Jennifer Harkness
said, "Our awards (Rockies) are among the worlds
most coveted television awards. The high number of entries
from more than 44 countries and territories, representing
a 15 per cent increase from last year, proves the festival's
continued growth and recognition within our international
television community".
New
programme categories at this years Rockies include environmental
programmes and social and humanitarian programmes.
The
UK has earned the highest number of nominees with Canada and
the US at close second. Australia and Germany are strong contenders
across a variety of categories as well.
Countries
and territories represented in this year's programme competition
include India, Argentina, Australia, China, Czech Republic
and Denmark.
Programme
Competition director Micol Marotti said, "The continued
success of the program competition is due to the hard work
of our international juries who volunteer their time to select
the best programs on television from around the world."
Host
juries include Aboriginal Peoples Television Network
(APTN), Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association (AMPIA),
American Public Television, Banff New Media Institute (The
Banff Centre) and NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation).
For
animation programme the nominees are Charlie and Lola Series
3, made for Cbeebies in the UK, El Tigre: The Adventures
of Manny Rivera: The Moustache Kid which was made for
US kids broadcaster Nickelodeon, Erky Perky: A Zen Tale,
a co-production between Canada and Australia, Shaun
the Sheep: Still Life, made by Aardman Animations for
the BBC and Tomte Tummetott and the Fox,made for German
broadcaster ZDF.
For
children's programme the nomineees are How the Gimquat
Found Her Song, Numbers and Beards, Serious
Andes: Episode 6, Space Pirates: Music to Paint to and
The Show with the Elephant.
For
comedy programmes the nominees are
Big Bang Theory, Desperate Housewives, Extras:
Episode 9, Ruddy Hell! It's Harry & Paul, Summer
Heights High: Episode 1 and The Chaser's War on Everything.
Made
for TV Movies competing are Autopilots, Borderline,
Boy A, Recovery and Stuart, A Life Backwards.
In the Internet Only category the nominees are Big
Art Mob, NFB Filmmaker in residence and The Gap Year
Bebo.
The
nomines for mini-series are Britz, Cranford,
Five Days and The Woman from Checkpoint Charlie.
