MUMBAI:
Anil Ambani's television channels will be housed under Reliance
Big Broadcasting Pvt. Ltd.
As
reported first by Indiantelevision.com, Reliance has applied
to the information and broadcasting ministry for 20 channels.
The
first to roll out will be the movie channels, probably in
the third quarter of the year. "Work is going on simultaneously
for the launch of several channels. But we expect the Hindi
and English movie channels to launch first," says a source
in reliance.
Reliance
is planning to create a pack of five movie channels including
Hindi, English and regional languages. The south is part of
this strategy.
Also
in the list are five general entertainment channels, spread
over regional markets. A kids and 3-4 music channels are also
expected to roll out.
Reliance
Big Broadcasting is in talks with Intelsat 10 but has not
yet finalised on the satellite provider, the source adds.
Since
the channels will be in pay mode, Reliance has started negotiating
with encryption solutions providers NDS and Iredeto.
"We
are scouting for creative agencies. We have started acquiring
movies and are strategising on the television content,"
says the source.
