DELHI: HBO will celebrate Earth Day this year with the exclusive
premiere of An Inconvenient Truth on 22 April at 9 pm. Directed
by Davis Guggenheim and hosted by Al Gore, this Academy Award-winning
documentary talks about climate change and global warming.
The
documentary follows a keynote presentation that Gore makes
and also tells about what the future could be like with the
climate changes. It also tells about the events that changed
his worldview such as his education and his son's near-fatal
car accident.
"HBO
has been bringing to its audience entertainment that is quality
as well as thought-provoking. We have a number of thought
provoking pictures lined up this year and An Inconvenient
Truth is one of them," said HBO South Asia Country Manager
Shruti Bajpai.
"We
want to enlighten the people about the effects of climate
change and how every single person can contribute to saving
our world. Small changes in habits can make a huge difference
in conservation," Bajpai added.
A
panel of experts were also present to discuss the effects
of climate change. The panellists were M S Swaminathan Research
Foundation Prof. M S Swaminathan, Integrated Research and
Action for Development (IRADe) Executive Director Prof. Jyoti
K Parikh, WWF-India Secretary General & CEO Ravi Singh
and Social Activist and Actress Nafisa Ali. Moderating the
discussion was Journalist Sunit Tandon.
It
was unanimously agreed, during the course of the discussion
that not enough was being done in educating the masses about
conservation of the environment and disaster management.
