MIB invited to Nab 2008

NEW DELHI: For the first time ever, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has been invited to the National Association of Broadcasters (Nab) Show 2008, where joint secretary Zohra Chatterjee is slated to speak on 14 April.

The event is scheduled to be held between 14 and 17 April in Las Vegas, USA, but a final decision on whether Chatterjee would be visiting is being taken, informed MIB officials.

It is learnt that Chatterjee would address the issue of impediments in unfolding Cas, as the emphasis at the show this year is digital entertainment.

Academy Award-winning actor and critically acclaimed screenwriter, director and producer Tim Robbins will deliver the opening keynote. Robbins will look at the changing face of entertainment and how new distribution and content creation opportunities will impact Hollywood and other industries.

Though there will be conferences starting 11 April, the main event with the keynote address will be held on 14 April, and exhibitions will be running through the period. More than 160 countries would attend.

From India, another participant would be Time Broadband Services Pvt Ltd director of operations and CTO Amit Dev, who will be discussing IPTV. The company has already done a soft launch of the IPTV service in India, called My Time.

 

The Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC) and the National Association of Broadcasters will host a breakfast session focused on mobile television opportunities for local TV broadcasters on 14 April.

On the opening day, executives from the broadcasting and cable industries will participate in an in-depth panel discussion on partnership opportunities available during the transition to digital television, and possibly India will make an important presentation.

Titled "DTV Transition: Partnership Opportunities for Cable Operators and Broadcasters," the discussion will include Raycom Media president and CEO Paul McTear, Time Warner Cable president and CEO Glenn Britt, Comcast Cable (west division) president Brad Dusto, Advance/Newhouse Communications chairman and CEO Robert Miron, and National Cable and Telecommunications Association president and CEO Kyle McSlarrow. Former FCC Chairman Richard Wiley will moderate the discussion.

Last year, there were more than 111,028 attendees from 163 countries, with 1,600 exhibitors generating an estimated $50 billion in commerce.

Nab is a trade association that promotes and protects the interests of free, local radio and television broadcasters throughout the US.
