MUMBAI: Vh1, a 24-hour international music and lifestyle channel, is bringing Wyclef Jean to perform live first time in India for Vh1 Handpicked.

Jean's tour will begin on 16 April in Bangalore, followed by Pune on 18 April and Mumbai on 19 April.

Popularly known as a member of the legendary trio The Fugees, Jean has gone on to release platinum solo albums with hits like Maria Maria (with guitar legend Carlos Santana) and Hips Don't Lie (with pop/Latino sensation Shakira).

"I have many Indian composers and artists that are dear friends. I have performed with them over the many years of my career as a solo artist and with the Fugees," said Jean. "This is my first trip to India and I am hoping my fans will love to see me perform live."

Vh1 associate GM Ferzad Palia said, "This is the second year we are hosting 'Handpicked' and we are glad we got the opportunity to present Wyclef Jean to his ardent fans on his first tour to India. Our commitment to Vh1 Handpicked is evident as we bring to India international chartbusters of tomorrow and present them live in your city."

In addition to singing, rapping and playing guitar, Jean has established himself as a producer and has collaborated with an array of artists including U2 frontman Bono, Santana, Shakira, Destiny's Child and Black Eyed Peas. He is also known for participating in charity benefit shows for a variety of causes, including aid for his native Haiti.
