DELHI:The 24 / 7 Hindi news Haryana News has gone off air
in the state, allegedly at the behest of the state authorities
using police force to order LCOs not to feed the channel to
subscribers, company sources told Indiantelevision.com today.
The
channel had gone off air since the last two days, with LCOs
going on TV saying that they have been ordered by police officials
not to feed the channel, and since then journalists are protesting
wearing black badges and have also petitioned the state Governor.
Sources
at STV Enterprises Ltd, which runs the channel, said that
this has happened after they showed the abysmal civic amenities
at the factory of Showa India, a large vendor for a personal
vehicle manufacturing major.
The
chief minister of the state had inaugurated the factory some
month and half ago.
Haryana
News had shown the CM making promises of bringing in FDI to
turn the state into an industrial haven, generating thousands
of jobs.
In
contrast, the channel showed that though the CM himself had
inaugurated the factory, today there is neither electricity
connection, nor water available there more than a month after
its inauguration.
Though
water lines have been laid, the channel showed that water
is not coming, and workers and staff are being forced to buy
bottled water for their consumption.
"We
have shown both sides of the story, carrying what the CM had
promised and also what the reality is, and this is just good
journalism, and yet, there is a government clamp down for
stating the truth," a senior official told Indiantelevision.com.
Incidentally, another offering from the same group, Punjab
Today has been virtually shut down in most parts of Punjab
after the new government of Akali Dal came to power, as it
is believed that the Punjab Today has shown reports that went
against the government.
The
channel has said that the LCOs themselves have protested this
measure and gone on TV, which just strengthens the company's
allegation.
State
government officials were not available till past noon, and
efforts to contact them are on.
