MUMBAI: US based web video service provider TinselVision is slated to launch in mid-October with an invitation-only launch, that will kick-off the site's beta phase operations.

The company chairman and CEO Chase Weir was in India recently, to forge tie-ups with Indian channels and production houses for content and in an interaction with Indiantelevision.com, revealed plans for future offerings.

Weir is positioning TinselVision's web video service as a 360 degree offering. "When we say 360 degrees, we mean our vision for TinselVision is to make it a destination for South Asian immigrants in the US, UK and Canada as premium provider in music videos, TV content, films, lifestyle media, sports and news."

The services would be provided at two levels - premium and free content. "Premium content would be available in the form pay-per view, download-to-own and subscription basis. All the offerings would be rounded up with the launch of a social networking site, that is due for launch in the coming months."

According to Weir, a social networking site will close the loop for making TinselVision a 360-degree entertainment offering. "I think, going by the notions of Web 2.0 and the kind of audiences we are attending to, a social networking site will be fitting as platform to have a relationship with our customers. So the site will balance the equation of being a premium aspirational entertainment offering," he said.

Weir however denies any possibilities of creating another MySpace or a Facebook. "If you have a user who is consuming already consuming a set of services, a social networking platform will further strengthen the usage since it offers an interactive platform not only within users but also with the service provider. The social networking site, will act as that platform."

In August, TinselVision acquired desivision.tv. The site which achieved more than a million unique monthly visitors will be incorporated into the company's social network offerings.

On the mobile front, TinselVision has its plans charted out as well. "The mobile platform requires a different business model altogether. Users are not going to be watching content in volumes and content orientation needs to be done differently. As of now, we are not launching directly on the mobile platform. But it's definitely on the cards," he says.

The firm has already entered into content syndication and licensing deals with Zee network, Star India and Zoom and plans to soft launch with approximately 700 hours of content on-board for the site.
