MUMBAI:
Sony Pictures Television International is deepening its India
presence with the opening of a new TV licensing office in
Mumbai.
Heading
the India office is Leena Lele Dutta, who has been appointed
director of licensing. Dutta joins SPTI from Ten Sports India
Limited where she had been associate vice president, advertising
sales, since 2002. She reports in to Ross Pollack, SPTIs
senior vice president, distribution, Asia.
"The
opening of our licensing office in Mumbai is the second one
in 2007 (after Seoul, Korea ) and further demonstrates our
commitment to servicing our clients in the markets in which
they operate," Pollack stated, while making the announcement.
"We
are pleased to have Leena on board. Already a skilled television
executive, she will bring local expertise to our licensing
activities in India, a critical market for SPTI in Asia. Being
an Asian Hollywood Studio is not solely about great Asian
content, it's also about being in the markets where we can
understand and service our clients' diverse entertainment
needs."
In
her new position, Dutta will be responsible for the licensing
of SPTI's series and features, along with the company's growing
lineup of international productions, to traditional and new
media partners in India. She will also provide support to
SPTI's Asian product acquisition efforts by assisting in the
ongoing evaluation of, investment in and distribution of Indian
content for SPTI in Asia and worldwide.
Prior
to Ten Sports, Dutta was regional manager for Nine Broadcasting
India (Channel 9). She also served as account manager for
MTV India and was group manager for Sony Entertainment Television.
SPTI
has been active in distributing Asian entertainment worldwide.
In addition to two of the highest grossing Asian movies of
all-time, Kung Fu Hustle and Crouching Tiger, Hidden
Dragon, SPTI's Asian portfolio includes Sony Pictures
Entertainment's first Bollywood movie, Saawariya, from
director Sanjay Leela Bhansali; Stephen Chow's next movie,
CJ7; the Korean drama Hyena and Korean feature
A Dirty Carnival from CJ Media and CJ Entertainment;
the Japanese anime series Gallery Fake and Kabutoborg
VxV; the Japanese miniseries Tokyo Friends starring
pop singer Ai Otsuka; and the Chinese feature Riding Alone
for Thousands of Miles directed by three-time Academy
Award nominee Zhang Yimou.
