MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Television International is deepening its India presence with the opening of a new TV licensing office in Mumbai.

Heading the India office is Leena Lele Dutta, who has been appointed director of licensing. Dutta joins SPTI from Ten Sports India Limited where she had been associate vice president, advertising sales, since 2002. She reports in to Ross Pollack, SPTI’s senior vice president, distribution, Asia.

"The opening of our licensing office in Mumbai is the second one in 2007 (after Seoul, Korea ) and further demonstrates our commitment to servicing our clients in the markets in which they operate," Pollack stated, while making the announcement.

"We are pleased to have Leena on board. Already a skilled television executive, she will bring local expertise to our licensing activities in India, a critical market for SPTI in Asia. Being an Asian Hollywood Studio is not solely about great Asian content, it's also about being in the markets where we can understand and service our clients' diverse entertainment needs."

In her new position, Dutta will be responsible for the licensing of SPTI's series and features, along with the company's growing lineup of international productions, to traditional and new media partners in India. She will also provide support to SPTI's Asian product acquisition efforts by assisting in the ongoing evaluation of, investment in and distribution of Indian content for SPTI in Asia and worldwide.

Prior to Ten Sports, Dutta was regional manager for Nine Broadcasting India (Channel 9). She also served as account manager for MTV India and was group manager for Sony Entertainment Television.

SPTI has been active in distributing Asian entertainment worldwide. In addition to two of the highest grossing Asian movies of all-time, Kung Fu Hustle and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, SPTI's Asian portfolio includes Sony Pictures Entertainment's first Bollywood movie, Saawariya, from director Sanjay Leela Bhansali; Stephen Chow's next movie, CJ7; the Korean drama Hyena and Korean feature A Dirty Carnival from CJ Media and CJ Entertainment; the Japanese anime series Gallery Fake and Kabutoborg VxV; the Japanese miniseries Tokyo Friends starring pop singer Ai Otsuka; and the Chinese feature Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles directed by three-time Academy Award nominee Zhang Yimou.
