MUMBAI:
The Banff World Television Festival (BWTVF) which takes place
from 1013 June, 2007 in Canada is turning over a green
leaf this year, introducing eco-friendly practices and a focus
on climate change.
As
part of this initiative, environmentalist, broadcaster and
scientist David Suzuki, actor and environmentalist Daryl Hannah,
and acclaimed scientist, explorer, conservationist and author
Tim Flannery have been confirmed to take part in a panel Code
Green - Environmental Responsibility in the Media.
BWTVF
director of content Jennifer Harkness says, " We are
honoured to have environmentalists David Suzuki, Daryl Hannah
and Tim Flannery share their views to keep the troubling issue
of climate change at the forefront of the media. Their passion
and dedication to this subject will fuel the debate at our
Code Green panel.
With
climate change at the top of the global agenda and front and
centre in the media over the last year, this panel will address
the power of television as a vehicle for social change. It
will question how to prevent the topic of climate change from
falling victim to the flavour of the month syndrome
and address issues such as how content creators and distributors
can address the topic of climate change and keep the subject
fresh for consumers.
BWTVF
organisers will be offering a host of environmentally-friendly
initiatives at the Festival this year, from carbon-neutral
travel options to using recycled paper for Festival agendas.
Delegates attending the 28th annual BTWVF are encouraged to
make their travel to and from Banff carbon-neutral by calculating
emissions and purchasing offsets.
