MUMBAI:
INX News and INX Media, through which Peter and Indrani Mukerjea's
broadcast venture is being launched, today announced that
two former News Corp veterans from the UK had come on board
in a consultative capacity.
Inx News announced that former Sky News chief Nick Pollard,
will be working as a consultant on the launch of the 24 hour
news channel that is scheduled to launch later this year. Pollard
will be acting as an advisor and consultant on all aspects of
the news channel and working closely with Indrani Mukerjea and
CEO and news head Vir Sanghvi.
Said Pollard, I am delighted to be involved in the exciting
new venture. India is one of the most dynamic and fast-growing
news markets in the world and I believe the new channel will
make an immediate and impressive impact.
We
aim to create a world class news channel for the 21st century,
said Sanghvi, and we are thrilled that one of the world's
greatest television news professionals has agreed to help
us set it up.
Pollard
resigned as head of Sky News last September after a multimillion-pound
relaunch failed to significantly increase viewing numbers.
The
other announcement made today was that of entertainment industry
professional Richard Platt, appointed as an advisor by INX
Media. He will be working closely with creative head Dilip
Gosh in all aspects of content and programming of the general
Hindi entertainment channel 9X.
Platt
was earlier with News Corp's Network 10 in Australia and also
programme controller of Sky Television in 1984. During this
period Platt added to the visual grammar of television by
pioneering the first European use of a constant bug
station ID and co-created a childrens puppet DJKat,
which played successfully on Fox stations in the USA.
Platt
was later associated with Scandinavian conglomerate Kinnevik,
now known as MTG, to launch both the premium pay station TV1000
and to be Programme Controller of the previously launched
TV3.
Platt
has also had a stint with the ITV franchise as director of
broadcasting for the enlarged group United Broadcasting and
Entertainment. During this period he was also a senior member
of the ITV Broadcast Board.
