MUMBAI:
Nokia N series in association with Subhash Ghai's Whistling
Woods International have announced the winners of the Mobile
filmmaker awards.
The
grand winner and the two runner ups were announced from the
10 shortlisted entries that were screened at the Whistling
Woods International campus in Mumbai yesterday.
The
award for the best mobile filmmaker was won by Ranjan Shetty
for Solitude dreams. The runner up in the fiction category
was Enlightening Saraswati by Kaashvi Nair, while Ek
Kavita by the duo Mukti Krishnan and Sachin Sreshtha won
the second runner up award in the non fiction category.
Winner
Ranjan Shetty said, "My storyline is simple. It was about
the nightmares we get when we are overworked. I was keen to
give a non conventional look and feel to my movie with a light
blue tint and a fast narration that were greatly appreciated."
The
initiative, launched in February, targeted young up and coming
filmmakers. Nokia N series Mobile awards invited aspiring
participants above 18 years of age to shoot a three minutes
film using their mobile phones in the category of fiction
and non fiction.
Presenting
the Nokia N series mobile awards, filmmaker Subhash Ghai said,
"Today's aspiring filmmakers are savvy and have a great
knack of imbibing sophisticated technology. I was overwhelmed
to see the number of entries and the creativity. Our initiative
has been received very well and we look to take it forward."
The
evening was also marked by a panel discussion on mobilfilms
that included eminent Whistling Woods International dean Kurt
Inderbitzin, Subhash Ghai, Manmohan Shetty, Rajat Barjatya
and Kamlesh Pandey. The focus of the discussion was on the
potential of the mobile device as the fourth screen for mainstream
movies. Moderated by Nokia India director multimedia Vineet
Taneja, the panel discussed various aspects of mobile filmmaking
in India.
Speaking
on the Nokia Nseries Mobile awards grand finale, Taneja said,
"This is a wonderful culmination of our initiative Nokia
N Series awards that was launched three months back. We strongly
believe that movie making on the go presents a huge opportunity
to the Indian film industry. With advanced multimedia devices
such as Nseries mobiles already making its mark among serious
filmmakers across the world, the mobile device is set to become
the preferred choice after conventional television screens."
