MUMBAI: US broadcaster
HBO chairman and CEO Chris Albrecht has been forced to resign by the broadcaster's
parent Time Warner following his arrest in Las Vegas. He
had been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend in Las Vegas.
Albrecht
had earlier said that he was taking a leave of absence to regain control of his
alcoholism Albrecht
said, "With great regret, at the request of Time Warner, I have agreed to
step down as chairman and CEO of Home Box Office. I take this step for the benefit
of my Home Box Office colleagues, recognising that I cannot allow my personal
circumstances to distract them from the business. Im very proud of what
we have achieved together at Home Box Office, and I wish everybody there many
more successes in the future." Albrecht
was arrested outside the MGM Grand's valet parking lot shortly after 3 a.m. last
Sunday, after officers reported seeing him fight with a woman identified as his
girlfriend. Then on Tuesday, Albrecht admitted to having a drinking problem and
though he had been sober for 13 years he had recently slipped back into drinking.
Time
Warner chairman and CEO Richard D. Parsons said, "Jeff Bewkes and I believe
that this is the right decision for the Company. We thank Chris for all of his
contributions to Home Box Office over the years." The
company also announced that HBO COO Bill Nelson will assume Albrecht's duties
on an interim basis until the appointment of a new HBO CEO. |
