NEW DELHI: There is no proposal to bring all cable TV homes
in the country under digital network, information and broadcasting
minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi has told the Lok Sabha.
Though the I&B ministry questions are listed for Mondays
in the Lok Sabha, they were tabled today in view of the Holi
holiday on Monday and adjournment of the House yesterday after
condoling the death of MP Sunil Kumar Mahato of the Jharkhand
Mukti Morcha.
Conditional Access System (CAS) has been implemented in the
notified areas of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.
Dasmunsi said an independent regulatory authority for broadcasting
is being envisaged in the proposed Broadcasting Services Regulation
Bill.
The minister said the recommendations on digitalization of
cable TV Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) are
being examined in consultation with other ministries / departments.
