BANGALORE: Zee Kannada News Head Vijay Goyals idea
of having people sign and give them their handkerchiefs to
root for an Indian victory during the current World Cup has
fetched them 45,000 plus of the piece of fabric with endorsements
from people across Karnataka and India too. The tremendous
response has encouraged them to get all the kerchiefs stitched
in a row and try for a world record entry in the Limca book
of records. A number of tailors reportedly worked for three
days and nights to create the chain.
Independent
observers were asked to witness the measuring of a part of
the handkerchiefs chain stretched along poles in concentric
rectangular perimeters and rows. Actual measurements for a
part of the chain were witnessed by the observers who included
Karnataka MLC and former cricketer, Prakash Rathore , this
correspondent, and other celebrities from different walks
of life from Bangalore . The event was Inaugurated by Srikantadutta
Narasimharaja Wodeyar, the Scion of Mysore Royal Family. The
recorded measurements totaled almost six kilometers, when
the organizers ran out of space to string up the kerchiefs.
The estimated length of the entire chain was more than 17
kilometers.
Besides the handkerchief chain, the Dr. Rajkumar Marwari Kannada
Abhimana Sangha in association with See `Kanada, organized for
a signature campaign on what they claim as the largest handkerchief
in the world at the same venue. The kerchief measured 48 feet
by 52 feet six inches.
The handkerchief campaign as reported earlier was flagged
off just 15 days ago by Essel Groups Subhash Chandra in Bangalore,
followed by Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy among others.
