today announced the launch of 'India Music Week' (IMW) at the 'London Calling'
festival to be held in Earls Court, London. 'London
Calling' is a gathering of major players and dealmakers in the international music
industry in the UK. PDM
India COO Devraj Sanyal said, "Indian music cuts across languages, caste
and religion to reach out to millions of listeners across the world. We are proud
to launch this concept of an India Music Week with the support of IMI. The Indian
music industry is quite unique compared to other countries, as it is virtually
dependent on new Hindi films for the lion's share (40%) of its revenues."
The
India Music Week is slated for an official launch in September in Mumbai. It will
look at unifying the various talents in the music industry and create a body that
keeps a close eye on the local music industry and the changing international trends. It
will also address major issues confronting the industry - the changes taking place
in the consumption patterns the new formats that will drive a new business model
and brand associations. The
India Music Week will be a week long festival with conferences, networking sessions,
mentor sessions, discussions, workshops, concerts, international speakers and
more. It will feature industry participation through IMI, music labels, trade,
licensees, composers, musicians, studio engineers, radio networks, equipment manufacturers,
music stores and online sales engines and technicians.
