MUMBAI:
MTV Networks International (MTVNI), a division of Viacom,
has promoted Amit Jain to EVP and managing director, MTV Networks
India, China and South East Asia, with immediate effect.
To be based in Singapore, Jain will take on this newly created
role, to lead the growth of and manage operations for MTVNI's
digital and linear programming services in these territories.
The company announced that Jain would also serve on the soon-to-be-formed
Viacom-18 board.
Under
Jain's leadership, MTVNI's India, China and SouthEast Asia
operations will be grouped together, reflecting the company's
structure in Europe, where there are clusters of complementary
regions managed by one executive. This approach has proven
to foster localization, while also enabling the company to
leverage commercial partnerships and creative exchange across
complementary markets, states an official release.
MTVNI President Bob Bakish said, "Amit's leadership,
vision and success in setting up our new joint venture in
India made it clear that he was ready to expand his role and
step up to drive growth across key Asian businesses. His ability
to make things happen suits the challenges we face, and I'm
confident he will enable us to further our development and
growth in Asia."
Jain was most recently MTV Networks India EVP/managing director,
and has been with the company since January 2006. He moves
into this new position following his leadership in the formation
of Viacom and TV18 Group's joint-venture multimedia entertainment
company, Viacom-18.
Jain said, "Asia is one of the biggest paradoxes for
broadcasters. While it is the single-largest market in terms
of population and TV households, it is also challenged with
the diversity of culture, infrastructure and above all developing
a viable business model. I am looking forward to leveraging
MTV Asia talent for 'unlocking' the true potential of this
market."
