MUMBAI: Microsoft India has announced the introduction of a new email domain @live.in for India.

This is part of the worldwide roll out of new live domains that include country-specific suffixes. These new domains are now the default domain address when users sign up for Windows Live or individual services like Windows Live Hotmail or Windows Live Messenger. Users from India can now sign up for yournname@live.in email id by logging on to http://mail.live.com.

"The new Live.in domain will give customers the chance to get a new name with a domain address more clearly associated with the new suite of Windows Live services", said Windows Live Services product head Samir Saraiya. "The Live.in id also opens up a whole new set of possible names so customers have a new opportunity to sign up for an ID name they really want", added Saraiya.

Live.in runs on the Windows Live Hotmail platform with similar enhancements that delivers a safer, more powerful and productive e-mail experience with flexible access via the Web, on a mobile phone or with an e-mail client, including increased storage limits to 5 GB.

The Live.in ID would provide users with benefits like access to Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Spaces as well as the next generation of Windows Live services such as: Windows Live Mail; Windows Live SkyDrive Beta; Windows Live Photo Gallery; Windows Live Writer; Windows Live Family Safety; Windows Live Calendar Beta; Xbox Live; Live Searc.

Users with a Live.in id will also be able to access these services apart from their mail on the mobile platform, letting consumers communicate and share with the people they care about. The Live.in id offers users a chance to use services that blend the online and the offline world seamlessly, users will now be able to connect, share and have the best of safety.

While the Windows Live domain will be the default address for new customers who sign up, there is still the option to choose @hotmail.com from the drop down menu of domains listed. The Live.in email id is an addition to the existing set of Windows Live powered email services such as Windows Live Hotmail, MSN.com or any other Microsoft Passport ID.
