MUMBAI:
Zee will be reviving its Hindi film production and distribution
business after exiting from it a few years back.
The
movie initiatives will fall under Zee Entertainment Enterprises
Ltd (ZEEL).
"We are re-activating our film production and distribution
initiatives this year," a source in ZEEL said.
ZEEL
(earlier known as Zee Telefilms Limited) had walked out of
film production, though it produced the blockbuster Gadar
in 2001.
The
idea was to create a film distribution network before getting
actively involved on the production front.
The
company, however, found that film distribution was a tough
task. It scrapped its joint venture arrangement with Rajshri
Pictures for film distribution after a slate of movies that
were channelised through the pipeline did not turn out profitable.
In
2004, ZEEL had released its home production 2D animation film
Bhagmati which flopped at the box office.
