DELHI: Information and Broadcasting minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi today lauded
the media for their bouquets and brickbats to the government since that was the
essence of democratic functioning.
Speaking
after releasing the Taking the UPA Report Card to the
Masses report by the Lokmat media group, the minister
said such reports by the media helped to guide the government
in functioning better. Dasmunsi claimed that the government
would complete implementation of the National Common Minimum
Programme much before the term of the government got over
and may launch new programmes thereafter.
Minister
of state for personnel Suresh Pachauri described the report
as an attempt to get a feedback on the report issued in May
on two years of United Progressive Alliance rule, which the
minister said had been a bold attempt. Minister of State for
Mines Subbarami Reddy also spoke on the occasion.
The
report by the Lokmat Group of newspapers seeks to give a feedback
from 30 districts of Maharashtra on the implementation of
various programmes listed in the UPA Report to the Nation
in May. The 50-page publication by the group lists what the
UPA had claimed and then adds what its own correspondents
have reported, on the various initiatives launched by the
UPA government.
