MUMBAI: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) backed
Malayalam Communications Ltd (MCL), which owns Malayalam regional
language satellite television channel Kairali TV, is launching
its third channel 'We'on 15 April.
'We' is targeting at the youth demographic. With the launch
of 'We', the MCL stable will now cover general entertainment
(through flagship Kairali TV) and infotainment as well.
Kairali TV launched in 2000 through an equity base of more than
250,000 shareholders while the infotainment channel launched
in August 2005.
"'We' channel would showcase the talent of the youth
which is abundantly available in our state. It would be a
24-hour channel," Malayalam film industry superstar and
MCL chairman Mammootty, has been quoted as saying of the new
launch.
Mammootty said he expected the infotainment channel to break
even in a year's time. "We expect that our latest channel
would (reach) break even faster, he added.
