NEW DELHI: The Press Council of India, which is the government-appointment
ombudsman for the media, disposed 404 cases out of the complaints
pending with it during the period from April 1 last year to
January 25 last.
Interestingly, a total of 436 complaints were filed during
this period against the media as compared to 164 filed by
the press during this period.
The Council headed by Justice G N Ray expects that the total
disposal during 2006-07 will reach the 654 mark.
The Council also initiated a process of consultation and dialogue
with press/media councils and similar bodies in different parts
of the world for active encouragement to preservation of the
press freedom and promotion of its standards and ethics worldwide. |
