NEW DELHI: Asha Swarup today assumed office as secretary
in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, taking over
from SK Arora who has been shifted to the Youth Affairs and
Sports Ministry.
A 1973 batch IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh Cadre, Swarup
was special secretary and financial advisor for the Department
of Commerce and Ministry of Textiles.
Arora is an officer of the 1971 batch from the Andhra Pradesh
cadre
During her career, Swarup has handled assignments as joint aecretary
in the Ministries of Rural Development, Human Resource Development
and Youth Affairs and Sports.
At the state level, she was chairperson of the Himachal Pradesh
State Electricity Board and principal secretary (Power) besides
holding other crucial portfolio such as principal secretary
(Home and Vigilance) and principal secretary (Health and Family
Welfare). |
