MUMBAI: Dr. Hamadoun Toure, Secretary-General of the International
Telecommunication Union, the worlds oldest international
organization established to standardize and regulate international
radio and telecommunications, will address the AMS in 2007
as one of the keynote speakers. Dr. Toure will join other
broadcast leaders from across continents in debate and reflection
on critical media issues in the region.
One critical issue is how the media is helping people make
sense of what is happening to and around them vis-à-vis
the onrush of globalisation, digital convergence and modernization.
Is media covering enough nation building efforts, notably
initiatives towards greater harmony, sustainable development
and a culture of peace? Is media empowering people enough
to participate in national development?
Broadcast leaders from Asias emerging economic giants,
China and India, will speak on this issue in the opening day
of the Asia Media Summit from 29-31st May 2007 in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia. Mr. Zhao Huayong, president of China Central Television,
and Mr. Baljit Singh Lalli, CEO of Prasar Bharati, the Broadcasting
Corporation of India, have confirmed participation in the three-day
conference.
Leading political and economic thinkers and movers from Asia-Pacific
have also confirmed their participation as speakers and moderators.
Among them, Dato Mohammed Jawhar Hassan, Group CEO of the
Institute of Strategic and International Studies, Malaysia,
Professor Solita Collas Monsod, former Economic Planning Minister
of the Philippines, Dr. Haroon Siddiqui, member of the Order
of Canada and Columnist and editor emeritus of the Toronto
Star in Canada, Dr. Chandra Muzzafar, president of the International
Movement for Just World, Dr. Shaban Moadab Shahidi, former
vice president of the Islamic Republic Broadcasting of Iran
and deputy minister of Culture and Information, Iran and Mr.
Javed Jabbar, former Minister of Information in Pakistan.

institutions from Europe, Africa, America and Canada are also
coming to share their insights during the Summit. They are

far confirmed participation in the conference. Close to 500
media professionals from across continents will converge in
Kuala Lumpur for the 4th Asia Media Summit.

Razak, The Honorable Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia has
accepted to keynote the Summit.
Seven Pre-summit activities have also been lined up starting
on 26 May 2007 in Kuala Lumpur.
