Ten Sports to air Dunhill Links golf tourney

MUMBAI: Golf tourney Dunhill Links Championship will air on Ten Sports.

The tournament kicks off tomorow 29 September. The Dunhill Links Championship is played over three different courses – The Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarn – and is considered a ‘celebration of links golf’. The tournament is played on a pro-am format.

At least two Indian professional golfers – Jyoti Randhawa and Amandeep Johl – and former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev are expected to participate in the tournament, which offers a purse of $5 million.

The Scottish galleries will be in full voice as local hero Stephen Gallacher will try and defend his title. Ireland’s Padraig Harrington, winner in 2002; Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke, Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie and Paul Lawrie, winner in 2001, and England’s Lee Westwood, winner in 2003, Ian Poulter, Denmark’s Thomas Björn, Australia’s Nick O’Hern and David Howell will all be battling for one of the biggest prizes on the European Tour.

The golfers will share centre stage with personalities from the world of entertainment including actor Michael Douglas, actor Hugh Grant, Jodie Kidd and Tico Torres. This mix gives the championship its unique character. Also present will be a who’s who of sports stars for whom golf is a passion, including England's cricket captain Michael Vaughan, Andrew Strauss, Ian Botham and Steve Waugh, tennis ace Boris Becker, soccer greats Sir Bobby Charlton and Johan Cruyff and former Formula One World Champion Nigel Mansell.
