MUMBAI: Starting 12 September, Asianet will bring the fascinating tales and legends of Vikramadithyan as a teleserial every Monday to Thursday at 9:30 pm.

Vikramaditya was one of the legendary emperors of India. It was during his (and his son Kumargupta) reign, India was at the pinnacle of prosperity and opulence. Although named after his grandfather Chandragupta, he took a title of Vikramaditya, which became a synonym for sovereign of tremendous power and wealth. This title was later taken up by scores of other sovereign rulers of India.

Vikramaditya was a brave prince. He was also learned in all the sastras and was a master of music, dance and all the arts. When he became king, he made his brother Bhatti his minister. Bhatti was a very learned and wise man. Under their rule, the people were prosperous and happy.

Vikramaditya built a city there and called it Ujjain after Kali's name. Afterwards he fought many battles, and enlarged his kingdom. Vikramaditya ruled long. He made a name for himself as a good and wise ruler. The tales of Vikram and the vampire Betaal are very famous in Indian literature. This has been told time and again, and passed down through history.
