MUMBAI: The Banff World Television Festival which takes place from 12 – 15 June 2005 in Canada has announced that it will present its Global Television Outstanding Achievement Award to Alliance Atlantis. The company is one of Canada’s specialty broadcasters.

The organisers of the event state that over the past 27 years, Alliance Atlantis and its predecessor companies have made an important contribution to Canadian culture. The company’s chairman and CEO Michael MacMillan, will attend the event.

Paying tribute Banff World Television Festival CEO, Robert Montgomery said, “Alliance Atlantis’ impressive record of growth and its contribution to the development of a rich Canadian cultural landscape make them a natural choice for our most coveted award. We look forward to drawing global attention to this innovative and dynamic company as an example for other broadcasters.”

Alliance Atlantis’ 13 specialty channels include Network Canada, National Geographic Canada, BBC Canada, BBC Kids, and Discovery Health Canada. The company also co-produces and distributes television programmes in Canada and internationally, including CSI which airs in India on AXN.

Each year, the Global Television Outstanding Achievement Award is presented to an individual or broadcaster that is entrepreneurial, provides innovative leadership and sets the bar for other broadcasters with programming excellence and growth. Past recipients include HBO, ZDF German Television, NHK, A&E Television Networks and Ted Turner. Winners are selected by the Banff Television Festival Foundation’s Board of Governors, a compendium of television industry veterans from around the globe.
