CNBC inks deal with Singapore Airlines for live in-flight news

MUMBAI: Looks like airline passengers are in a treat from television networks! The latest to cash in on this high-flying viewer segment is CNBC. The business news and information channel has inked a deal with Singapore Airlines to deliver live in-flight news on select routes.

In an agreement with Connexion by Boeing, which claims to be the world's leading high-speed in-flight Internet services provider, NBC Universal Cable is making available globally either CNBC Asia, CNBC Europe or CNBC US, depending on flight path, as well as MSNBC programming within the United States, informs a media release.

CNBC's full range of programmes will be accessible live to passengers through their laptops. These include Asia Squawk Box, the signature morning bulletin anchored by Martin Soong, CNBC Tonight, a daily evening programme combining business, news, investment and lifestyle.

The official release also adds that Generation-e, the network's popular weekly technology programme anchored by Keith Liu and Amanda Drury, Managing Asia, a weekly look inside the minds of the region's top leaders, to name a few will be part of the in-flight news package.

The Connexion by Boeing television's service availability will be expanded later this year to include other airlines that are offering the award-winning high-speed in-flight Internet service.

CNBC Asia Pacific president and CEO Alexander P Brown said: "With a strong reputation built on providing the critical tools and information that empower the efforts of successful business leaders who are often frequent travellers, CNBC is proud to be among the first networks selected for live in-flight broadcast."
