Cartoon Network, Pogo's summer initiatives deliver top ratings

MUMBAI: Leaders in the kids’ genre, Cartoon Network and Pogo have once again delivered in the holiday season.

The latest Tam ratings (4-14 CS, All India, 8 - 21 May, All days, 24 hours) have revealed that Cartoon Network and Pogo, together, command 82 per cent of kids’ channel shares.

As part of the summer programming line up, Pogo aired Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets on 22 May at 2 pm, which notched TVRs of 2.0 in 4-14 C&S and TVRs of 4.0 in SEC AB kids – all India.

In addition, Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone, which was aired on Pogo last year, once again posted good ratings with its Cartoon Network premiere on 15 May. This movie received a 3.0 TVR for All India, All SECs and a 3.9 TVR for All India SEC AB.

Turner Entertainment Networks Asia senior vice president and general manager Ian Diamond said, "We are truly pleased that we have delivered on our promise to Indian kids in bringing them the best in world-class programming across genres, including movies. The overwhelming response to Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets on our channels has surpassed all expectations and beaten all other movies telecast on kids’ channels in recent times. The double-whammy is, indeed, a reaffirmation that we have provided Indian kids with compelling content that is both engaging and entertaining."

In addition, the slew of new summer programming launched by Cartoon Network and POGO has received a stupendous response from viewers across India. On Cartoon Network, The Legend of Prince Ram, rated 2.0 TVR while the new show, Beyblade rated, on an average, an above 1 TVR (5.30 pm) while Cartoon Network’s Sunday morning line up (9 am – 12 noon) posted an average above 1 TVR as well!

Since its launch on Pogo, the rib–tickling game show Takeshi’s Castle has consistently delivered an average of above 1 TVR to become one of the highest rated shows on the channel. The show is hosted by Javed Jaffrey and on an average, rates higher than any other show on a kids’ channel, excluding Cartoon Network.

The locally produced series MAD has shown week-on-week growth since its launch on 24 April with the latest high of 0.9 TVR among All SEC and 1.9 TVR among SEC AB on 15 May (Tam India, 4-14, SEC AB C&S). SMS and online contests held during the MAD shows have received more than 70,000 entries across Cartoon Network and Pogo.

Turner International India managing director Anshuman Misra said, "The high ratings that both Cartoon Network and Pogo have delivered for the compelling summer programming line up demonstrates the success of our programming strategy. As the resident kids’ experts, we are continually evolving and evaluating our programming strategies to reflect the changing viewing needs of the consumer. As in previous years, we are pleased that our strategic approach to programming has once again paid rich dividends, and we are confident that we will maintain this momentum over the years to continuously engage our Indian viewers."
