Sun bags telecast rights to Filmfare awards

MUMBAI: Chennai-headquartered Sun Network has bagged telecast rights to this year's Southern Filmfare awards. The awards, covering the entire Southern film market - Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam - will be held at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on 23 July.

Sun Network will telecast the recorded version of the awards later in all the four languages in its respective regional channels Sun TV (Tamil), Gemini TV (Telugu), Udaya TV (Kannada) and Surya TV (Malayalam).

Bennett, Coleman & Co.'s Times Infotainment Media Ltd. (TIML) has bought slots from Sun Network to telecast the 52nd edition of the awards. The production and marketing is solely done by TIML. It has roped in Hero Honda Motors as the official presenting sponsor for the awards.

Noted Telugu film producer and the Southern media baron Ramoji Rao and veteran Tamil actress K R Vijaya have been chosen to receive the lifetime achievement award for their contribution to their respective film industries.

Last year it was Raj TV which held the filmfare telecast rights. The channel telecast the awards in its Tamil and Telugu channels.
