C-Dot, Alcatel to set up Wi-Max R&D Center at Chennai

BANGALORE: India's C-Dot and French major Alcatel will be setting up a Wi-Max R&D Center at Chennai, revealed Union Communications and IT minister Dayanidhi Maran at Bangalore. He did not discuss any other details about the proposed center, except that the project would need clearance from the Union Cabinet.

Wi-Max (Worldwide interoperability of Microwave Access) a technology which has hundreds of companies across the globe spending time, effort and money to make it successful, is emerging as cost effective, reliable and scalable last mile access technology.

While speaking to reporters, Maran refused to discuss details about the controversial Intel proposed chip fabrication project, which was earlier announced and later denied by Intel India.

Maran appealed that it was time industries looked at cities other than Bangalore for setting up new ventures and expansion plans. He suggested Mysore, Belgaum Hubli, Mangalore in Karnataka and Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Noioda as destinations which could be considered.
