TNA takes WWE to the mat with monthly PPV

MUMBAI: A healthy alternative to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is the promise that Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling has been trying to give wrestling fans in the US.

TNA has now started airing monthly pay-per-view (PPV) events. The first one aired last Sunday and was called Victory Road. In India TNA Wrestling airs every Saturday at 8 pm on Star World.

Like the WWE, TNA's PPVs will be of a three-hour duration. TNA Entertainment president Dixie Carter added, "In two years, TNA has been able to leverage the weekly pay-per-view format to take the company from a virtually unknown entity to the most recognised 'New Wrestling Alternative' for fans around the world.

"As we continue to grow the company across all platforms, we strongly believe this move will be another positive step in establishing ourselves as the serious contender in our industry."

With Victory Road WWE now has competition in the form of monthly PPVs for the first time since 18 March, 2001, when the now defunct WCW held their last pay-per-view event

In a recent television interview WWE chairman Vince McMahon said that while TNA was a wrestling company the WWE was an entertainment company. TNA claims that its USP is less talk, more action and programming that is not offensive to families.

TNA Wrestling claims to be seen in 34 countries around the world.
