The show has tentatively been named American Top 40 Awards. It is expected to air next year on the Rupert Murdoch owned broadcaster. The broadcaster has signed a deal with Ryan Seacrest to host and serve as the executive producer. Seacrest also hosted American Idol.

The aim of Fox is to expand on Premiere Radio Networks’ syndicated American Top 40 countdown show. Hosted by Seacrest the show showcases the biggest songs of the pop music genre in the US. Since Seacrest took the reins, his American Top 40 audience continues to grow.

Fox's special will recognise the hottest solo artists, groups and songs in pop music, based on the year’s leading performers on the radio show. It will incorporate performances by musical acts. By focussing on pop, this awards show aims at breaking new ground to salute the music industry’s most recognisable and encompassing genre of music.

Premiere Radio Networks syndicates American Top 40 on nearly 200 stations across the US. The company's [resident and COO Kraig Kitchin said, "American Top 40 has had a loyal following for the last 30 years. Therefore bringing that audience to a televised awards show is a smart move. We’re very excited about Ryan teaming up with Fox to do this."
