KTPC directs review of cable wire stringing

BANGALORE: After a string of allegations and counter allegations that the past week witnessed, the Bangalore cable tragedy episode seems to be on the right track now.

The Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (KTPC) has finally decided to step in and has instructed all the power distribution companies in the state to review the stringing of cable wires.

Media reports have quoted KTPC managing director V Madhu as saying, "We have drawn up the design for stringing the cables more clearly and sent it to all escoms. This is actually a part of our agreement with the cable companies, but, we've made it more clear now."

According to reports, KTPC's order is seen as a move to ensure that the restringing of wires pulled down by Bescom is being done carefully. As reported by earlier, Bescom was on a cable cutting spree after the tragic death of a child due to electrocution when he came in contact with a loosely hung live wire.

Meanwhile, Bescom authorities are expected to initiate an inquiry into the death of an Oman national who was killed on 25 July after he touched a live wire strung outside the balcony of a house. The deceased was touring Bangalore and the tragedy happened at his friend' s house on the second floor on I cross in Old Gurappanapalaya. According to reports, Bescom's inquiry will investigate if building norms were adhered to and if the house had been built too close to the wires.
