BBC archive footage featured in 10 Emmy nominees

MUMBAI: BBC Motion Gallery a division of BBC Worldwide licenses BBC and CBS News Archive footage to producers of a range of shows and series.

10 of these shows have been nominated for 2003-2004 Prime Time Emmy Awards. As reported earlier by the 56th Annual Emmy Awards will be presented on 19 September 2004 in Los Angeles.

BBC Motion Gallery offers media professionals access to a comprehensive collection of motion images for licensing worldwide. It claims to have over 500 million feet of film and 300,000 hours of video. They include programming produced in conjunction with Discovery and PBS. BBC Motion Gallery is also the exclusive global representative of the CBS News Archive,

The clips licensed that have featured in nominated programmes include a 60 Minutes segment form the CBS News archive for HBO's The Sopranos. A&E's Biography used BBC footage of various luminaries such as Pope John Paul II, the British Royal Family, Jane Fonda, Johnny Depp, Arnold Schwarzenegger and author JK Rowling.

Other nominated programmes tapped into the vast BBC archive to cut in clips of everything. They ranged from a B-roll of a paediatric Aids hospital in Africa and shots of civil rights marches in 1960s Memphis to rock and roll, jazz bands, classical ballet performances and red-carpet movie premieres.

BBC Motion Gallery MD Simon Gibbs added, "This range of Emmy nominated primetime programmes gives a glimpse of the depth and breath of available clips via BBC Motion Galler. The resource is designed to meet the detailed and immediate needs of any production."
