CNN focus in 2004 to rest on US presidential elections

MUMBAI: There are two big television related events for next year. One is the US Presidential elections. The other is the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece. News broadcaster CNN has announced that it will offer extensive coverage of the former.

The electoral campaign will run for nine months and CNN will start its coverage from January. Voting takes place in November. The focus will include examining the democratic candidates and what chances they have of stopping Bush from fulfilling a second term. Bush's presidency was rough. First the events of 9/11 and then the more recent war on Iraq. The broadcaster will examine his performance in the light of these events.

It will also have live reports of two significant events. One is the Democratic National Convention which takes place in Boston in July. The other is the Republican National Convention in August. Anchor Jonathan Mann will lead the broadcaster's coverage and will also provide an international perspective on the same. Senior White House correspondents and anchors John King, Judy Woodruff and Candy Crowley will lend weight to the content.

In addition to the US CNN will also bring election results from countries like Ireland. Tomorrow 1 January Ireland will elect a president for the European Union (EU). Over the next six months Ireland will be the face of the EU. Another significant event is the G8 Summit in June in Georgia. Bush will host the 30th edition of the event. The US assumes presidency of the organisation from France in 2004.
