[V]'s 'Popstars 2' band ready and raring to go

MUMBAI: The chosen four have finally arrived. Star's music arm, Channel [V], in a televised version of Coke Popstars 2 announced the final band, a special media introduction is scheduled on Friday.

While the first edition had an all girl band, this time around there are two girls and two guys who form the band. The lucky munda's to make it to final four are Mumbai's Sangeet Haldipur and Jaipur's Jimmy Felix, while both the kudi's shortlisted, Neeti Mohan & Vasudha Sharma are from Delhi. Currently, the lucky four are gearing up for their first public concert next month.

While a huge media blitz accompanied the first edition and this time around the publicity fervor was relatively less, partially because the channel had already managed to establish the brand last year. With the first edition of the Popstars hunt turning the channel's fortunes around, the second edition already has the audience tuning in to get their dose of a reality show.

While the newest Popstars find are still trying to tune into their newfound celebrity status, Popstars VIVA have just launched a new music album titled Viva Reloaded.

The new Coke [v] Popstars 2 band members were chosen after a talent search that covered 7 cities across the country featuring over 15,000 young aspirants. After hours of rigorous auditions by the judging panel of lead singer of a Indi-pop band Euphoria Palash Sen, Indi-pop singer Mehnaaz and Channel [v] VJ Purab.

Amongst the chosen four is the Mumbai boy Sangeet Haldipur, a former student of a St Xavier's College who has studied piano, both western classical and jazz. He is a singer, composer, lyricist and musician all rolled in one, says a company release.

While Jimmy Felix, the lucky munda from Jaipur, has been creating and performing music for as long as he can remember. Born and brought up in Jaipur, Jimmy is an MBA and a fitness freak to boot.

Delhiite Neeti Mohan has studied Indian classical ballet, jazz dance and ballet. Besides singing and dancing, she also has flair for acting, says the release. Vasudha Sharma was sociology student from Delhi's Hindu College. Trained in Hindustani classical music at the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, she's has a versatile voice and great skills on the keyboard and guitar.

According to media reports, the channel had zeroed down on the final four almost a month ago and now they have already begun work on their album. Palash Sen, Jatin-Lalit, Salim-Sulaiman, Sanjay Divecha, Ashutosh-Dhruv and Vishal Bhardwaj are the composers to work on the band's first album. While Vasudha has penned one song, others have been penned by Sameer, Palash Sen and Munna Dheman.
