Starting next month, the channel will commence shooting for its
new show -Kuch Diiil Se. Slated to be essentially
a woman- centric interactive show, it will be hosted by Smriti Malhotra
of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi fame . The show will also
have a panel of distinguished guests and a live audience.
The show aspires to generate public opinion on issues, especially
those related to women. In a bid to make the show interactive and
reach out to viewers, the channel has set up call- centres in all
major cities. People can call up at the numbers (displayed during
promos currently on-air ) and give their suggestions, discuss problems
or even suggest topics for the show.
The show is most likely to find a place in the 10:30 pm current
affairs band, which was incidentally given a facelift in January.
Some of the programmes on this band are - Kuch Khaas Baatein
by Swati Chaturvedi and Meeting of Minds by Vir Sanghvi,Line
of Fire and Court Martial with Karan Thapar and Khulla
Manch with Manoj Raghuvanshi. The company officials however
declined to comment.
"The main objective of the show is to voice people's opinion
and extend help and support to those who seek it," informs
show host Smriti Malhotra.
"An interesting topic suggested by one of the callers which
seemed quite relevant was- Are girls being allowed to wear mini
skirts,a sign of liberation that everyone keeps talking about ?,"
adds Malhotra, citing an example of the issues that would be tackled
in the show. Other problems that would be delved into include difficulties
faced by unwed mothers, sexual harassment at work and desire for
a male child, to name a few.
"I suppose I was chosen to host this show because of my mass
appeal . Moreover the channel needed someone who would be non- judgmental
and would be taken seriously by the viewers," says Smriti Malhotra.
Though the show is scheduled to go on-air only in June, Smriti
Malhotra seems quite excited about the new project, " I am
looking forward to hosting this show because it will allow me to
do something new , something different. I have finally got an opportunity
to put my popularity into use and give something back to society."
