MTV's 'Osbournes' best reality show at Emmys 'prelude'

MUMBAI: The Osbournes, MTV 's unexpected hit about the life of rocker Ozzy Osbourne, was named best reality series at the Creative Arts Emmys' on Saturday at the Shrine auditorium in Los Angeles. The awards were a prelude to the 54th Annual Emmy awards instituted by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on 22 September.

The awards were given in recognition of technical and artistic achievement in the creative arts categories. The academy presented awards in 61 categories.

Frasier, one of the longest running shows now on television, earned its latest awards in the categories of outstanding guest actor in a comedy series, outstanding multi-camera picture editing for a series and outstanding multi-camera sound mixing for a series or special. The serial is currently being aired on Star World .

The Opening Ceremony of the 2002 Winter Olympics collected six Emmys for NBC , edging out HBO's Six Feet Under, by a single category.

This year, as in last year, India will be represented on the jury. "Showman" filmmaker Subhash Ghai will be on the International Council for the final selection of the 2002 International Emmy Awards. The International Council of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is the largest organisation of global broadcasters, with television and media personalities from 50 countries. It will judge documentaries and serials from around the world. Last year, Zee Telefilms group broadcasting CEO Sandeep Goyal was the first Indian to be invited on the jury.

There is widespread anticipation at this year awards as Tom Hanks has been nominated for Emmys in multiple categories including Outstanding Writing and Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special for his work on HBO's Band of Brothers and We Stand Alone Together: The Men of Easy Company. Also, three stars from the perennial favourite 'Friends' - have been nominated for awards . LeBlanc and Perry for the Emmy for outstanding lead in a comedy series and Aniston for lead actress for her portrayal of Rachel Green.

Reports say that queen of the talk show Oprah Winfrey has been chosen to receive the first-ever Bob Hope Humanitarian Award from Tom Hanks at the September 22 Prime-Time Emmy Awards. Established this year by the Academy Board of Governors, the award was created to recognise Hope's pioneer status in the industry and his long career of humanitarian work.
