Big B on BBC World's 'Asia Today'

NEW DELHI: Asia Today, a programme on BBC World, featured the icon of Indian cinema Amitabh Bachchan at 8 pm tonight.

BBC correspondent Sanjeev Srivastava interviews the legend who will be celebrating his 60th Birthday on 11 October and traces his journey into filmdom, his illustrious career, his family, upbringing and his thoughts on the film industry and his experience on television.

A few excerpts from the interview :

When questioned about how he feels on turning sixty, Amitabh Bachchan says, "There are no regrets. If given a chance, I will live my life just like this all over again". Asked about his experience on television, which in some ways resurrected Bachchan's career, the Big B told the BBC that a number of his friends and well wishers actually advised him against it as it was regarded infra dig for a film star to work on the small screen.

"The success of KBC amazed me and made me realise the immense potential and the strength of the medium. What I had not achieved in thirty years in cinema, I got through a thirty minute exposure on TV. KBC was also special because through it I really interacted with the common man and shared with him his hopes, sorrows and aspirations."

The interview excerpts will feature on BBC World programme Asia Today on 4 October at 8:00 pm followed by the full interview which will be shown as part of a special report on Amitabh Bachchan on Asia Today, on 5 October, 2002 at 7:00 am, 8:00am and 9:00 am.
