HBO, Tyson and Lee to team up for the television series 'Mike Tyson - Undisputed Truth'
MUMBAI: Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson is all prepped up to debut on television with his one man show, Undisputed Truth. HBO Films announced yesterday that Tyson‘s one man show would be directed by Spike Lee, the production of which starts in July and is slated to premier by the end of the year.
Says HBO programming president Michael Lombardo, "Mike Tyson‘s one-man show is a fascinating journey into his storied life and career, and we are thrilled to have Spike Lee bring it from the stage to the screen for our viewers."
Tyson‘s Undisputed Truth which covers the highs and lows of the controversial boxer debuted in Las Vegas in 2012 before running on Broadway and toured across 36 cities in US within a span of 10 weeks.
"I‘m incredibly grateful to HBO for partnering with me and for believing in my story. It is an honour and a privilege to be working with them to bring my one-man show, Undisputed Truth, to life on the television screen." said Tyson.
HBO, Lee and Tyson had also previously teamed for a boxing drama in 2011 and so HBO considers no better than Spike Lee to give Undisputed Truth the right treatment it deserves.
While Kiki Tyson is writing Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth, Lee, Mike Tyson, Kiki Tyson, Jon Kilik and James Nederlander are executive producers for it.
