The Star Network announced today that it will formally launch
its second Kannada GEC Suvarana Plus on July 14. Industry
sources say that test signal of the channel are already on
and that the network is in talks with major MSOs' for carriage
of the channel. Initially, Suvarana Plus will be available
digitally on cable in Bangalore and Mysore and on analog in
the rest of the state. Availability of the channel on the
DTH and IPTV platforms are a while away as yet.
Communications MD K Madhavan says, "Karnataka has been
a key market for us, we are buoyant and see huge potential
in the Kannada television space. Suvarna has been offering
wholesome family entertainment to Kannada homes and is the
leader in prime time. Suvarna Plus is our new offering which
will have a new perspective in terms of entertainment. Both
these channels will have distinctive content offering. With
the launch of Suvarna Plus we intend to increase our dominance
in Kannada GEC market."
Swalpa Jaasthi" (Just a little more entertainment, mischief)
is the tagline of Suvarna Plus, and the channel says that
this tagline captures a basic tendency of humans to get 'A
bit more' in everything and it promises the viewer of 'something
extra' in terms of entertainment.
idea behind Suvarna Plus is to create content which acts as
a stress buster, the content offering includes movies, comedy
fiction shows, reality shows, chat shows, film based shows
and music. The channel will also offer content targeting youth
with shows like Campus Connect.
two to three hours of content specifically for Suvarna Plus
will be mixed and matched with some content from Suvarna as
well as music and movies. Kannadada Kotyadhipati, the Kannada
version of 'Who wants to be a millionaire' which has garnered
big ratings for Suvarna will also be aired in the afternoon
reveal sources at Asianet.
new content for the channel includes Comedy-Comedy. This one
hour show will be aired from Monday to Friday at 6PM. The
show will also have a weekend recap. The other shows are:
Namma Family (Our Family), a half weekly show, to be aired
for an hour in the 1pm afternoon slot; Cinereels, a half an
hour show delving into new Sandalwood releases, aired daily
at 9.00 am and a half an hour 'rag show'. Campus Connect,
also a half an hour show will run on weekends at 12.30pm.
the launch day, a Sunday, the channel plans to air four big
movies featuring some heavyweights from Sandalwood - Ganeh,
Sudeep and Darshan - the movies being 'Veera Madakari (Sudeep);
Shourya (Darshan); Chellata (Ganesh) and Tirupati (Sudeep).
