BANGALORE: Zee Kannada will start airing a new daily soap, ‘Rajkumari’ (Princess), based on the stories of the Mysore royals, from 23 April.

Rajkumari will run Monday to Friday at the 8 pm slot.

“Though a few stories about the queens of Mysore are in public knowledge, not much is known about the princess or Rajakumari’s. ‘Rajakumari’ is a serial which revolves around a King (Raja) and princess (Kumari)”, says Zee Group executive vice-president- Bangalore Gautham Machaiah.

The serial revolves around raja Vijayendra, a man who loves a palace ‘Ratna Mahal’ more than anything else and his daughter Lakshmi who loves her father a lot. In a tough situation, Vijayendra loses his palace and his wealth.

Zee Kannada has spent around Rs 800,000 to build a set for the palace, reasonably big money for regional television.

Returning to the small screen after a long hiatus, veteran actor Dathanna plays the role of raja Vijayendra. Lakshmi Chandrashekar plays the role of his queen. Anjana, a new face, plays the lead role of Rajakumari, while Pradeep Badekkila appears as her lover.

Television artistes’ Sridevi, Vanishree, Rohini, Kavya Shah, Shashikumar, N.M.Suresh and Sagar Puranik are a part of the starcast. The show is being directed by Shruthi Naidu, of the popular teleserial Chi.Sou.Savithri fame.
