Discovery ups Rajiv Bakshi to vice president - marketing

MUMBAI: Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, a division of the non-fiction media company Discovery Communications, has promoted Rajiv Bakshi to vice president - marketing for the India region.

In his new role, Bakshi will be responsible for creating and implementing strategic marketing initiatives for Discovery's entire portfolio of six networks in India. He will continue to report to Rahul Johri, senior vice president and general manager -India.

Said Johri, "Rajiv has demonstrated great drive and acumen by developing and executive innovating marketing strategies. He has been a key contributor in driving brand recognition, achieving significant rating milestones and enhancing corporate reputation. I look forward to his passionate leadership and talent to expand our business in the country."

During the last five years at Discovery, Bakshi played a critical role in driving ratings for Discovery Channel, establishing lifestyle channel Discovery Travel & Living in India and refreshing Animal Planet. He was a participant in the company's expansion strategy in India which included the launch of three new networks in 2010: Discovery Science - the 24-hour science-centric channel; Discovery Turbo - a channel dedicated to speed and Discovery HD World - a 24-hour high definition channel.

Says Bakshi, "The company's networks-portfolio, ranging from Discovery Channel and Travel & Living to the recently launched Discovery Turbo, Discovery Science and Discovery HD World present immense challenge and unmatched opportunity for creativity and innovation."

A management graduate in marketing, Bakshi joined Discovery in 2004 and is based in New Delhi. With over 12 years of experience, he has worked in various capacities across diverse sectors including FMCG, auto, durables and hospitality.
