DELHI: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has banned
Fashion TV for its obscene programming.
The Ministry said Thursday the transmission/re-transmission
of the channel has been prohibited for ten days from tomorrow
for telecasting a programme showing women with nude upper
body which was offending against good taste and decency.
The
ban from 7 pm on 12 March 2010 till 7 pm on 21 March through
Cable Television Networks and any other platforms throughout
the country has been imposed for violation of Rule-6 (1) (a),
(d), (k), (o) & 6(5) of Cable Television Networks Rules,
1994. The action has been taken under sub-section (2) of Section-20
of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.
The
offending programme was telecast on 4 September last year
at 3.30 pm and 7.01 pm and the visuals were found to
be obscene, denigrating women and were not suitable for children
and unrestricted public exhibition, the Ministry said.
The
channel had also been prohibited in the past from 1 April
2007 to 30 May 2007 on grounds of telecasting programmes such
as Midnight Hot wherein skimpily dressed and semi naked
models were shown. The prohibition was, however, revoked on
25 May 2007 after FTV India.com India Channel regretted their
error and assured that such an error will not be repeated
in future.
