MUMBAI:
Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid will be among the featured speakers
at the 2010 SportAccord Convention in Dubai. The former captain
of Indias cricket team will join a line-up of participants
in a conference session on the changing geography of international
sport.
The eighth annual SportAccord Convention will take place in
Dubai from 25-30 April at the Atlantis Palm Resort. It is
the first edition of the SportAccord Convention to be held
in the Middle East.
The
Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes will introduce this SportAccord
Convention session dedicated to countries and regions that
have become major players in sport reflecting the emergence
of their increasingly powerful economies. Rios Summer
Olympic Games in 2016 will be the first Olympic Games to take
place in South America. Carlos Nuzman, President of the Brazilian
Olympic Committee, will also participate in the panel session.
They
will be joined by Dmitry Chernyshenko, CEO of Sochi 2014,
the first Russian host of the Olympic Winter Games, and Sam
Ramsamy, IOC Member from South Africa, whose country will
be the first African nation to host the Fifa World Cup.
The
panel will be moderated by Michael Lenard, senior MD, Paladin
Realty Partners; Member of the International Council of Arbitration
for Sport (ICAS).
SportAccord
Convention executive director Anna Hellman says, We

of participants in this session to address the big picture
issues in some of the newest and largest markets for sport.
They are uniquely qualified to provide insights into the expansion
of sport into new regions and what the changing international
demographics for hosting events and sport consumption will
mean for all of world sport.
Every
year SportAccord Week features a dynamic exhibition, numerous
networking receptions and top-level conference sessions, including
the City Forum, as well as the annual general meetings of
the Sports Governing Bodies. The Convention attracts over
1,500 leading representatives of international sport.
The
SportAccord Convention annually brings representatives from
the 100 international sports federations and organisations
affiliated to SportAccord/GAISF (General Association of International
Sports Federations), ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic
International Federations) and AIOWF (Association of the International
Olympic Winter Sports Federations), as well as the International
Olympic Committee Executive Board, together with sponsors,
bidding and host cities, architects, sports lawyers, broadcasters,
games organising committees, rights holders and other specialists
to discuss the key issues facing the sports industry.
